Mythogram: Under Watchful Eyes
“Mythogram” is an audiovisual work consisting of a collection of found images, downloaded from various online domains.
These images are used to composite several nonlinear sequences and are subsequently compiled as the reflection of an artificial elemental entity. This artificial entity is computer generated, displays a liquid form and is designed using procedural generation algorithms, referencing immateriality and the absence of solidity. The physical object where the found images are being reflected on, is expected to work as a meta-interface that is made up of the trail projection of our digital self.
In the Anthropocene, human bodies confide a serious part of their memory to technological devices, which are in fact the mediums for further connectivity through the internet. It could be said that these cognitive devices are the expansion of our body, a collection of mnemo-technological objects. And here one could ask if the massive growth of mnemo-technologies does not represent a structural loss of memory, or, more precisely, a displacement of this memory where it can become the object of control of knowledge, and establish the essentially mnemo-technological basis of societies of control.
A/V Installation will be presented on the 'Imagine you wake up and there is no Internet' exhibition, Athens from 22 Oct. - 15 Nov. - Antonis Kalagkatsis 2020
